PTA January 2008 Minutes
Eleven, including Prescillia, were present.
Prescillia, welcoming everyone, started the meeting at 4:00 P. M. in the Media Center. Mrs. Howell announced that the PTA has a “working balance” of $5,148.47. Factors included in reaching this total were:
1. Outstanding checks
2. Secret Santa shop sales were $1,870.75 and $870.75 of which is estimated profit.
Bonita Martin read the minutes from the last meeting. They were approved as read.
Prescillia discussed the success of the Secret Santa Shop. We spent $1,000.00, and made a profit of $870.75.
We discussed what could be done with the profits that the PTA has made this year:
1. Get TV and DVD for each Middle/High School Teacher.
2. Get a nice Audio System for different functions at the school.
We discussed the Dance that will be held February 29, 2008. The DJ that we were going to use was going to charge $500.00 to do the Dance. This was out of our budget. So, therefore, we will not be using him. Brent Anderson has volunteered to be the DJ. Mrs. Howell made the motion to accept his offer and Bonita Martin second the motion. All members approved. We discussed a budget of $400.00 to purchase food, download music, and for decorations. Mrs. Howell made the motion to accept this amount and Mrs. Gilbert second the motion. All members approved. The Dance will be for the 3rd – 9th graders. We will have separate times for these grades.
1. 3rd – 5th grade will be from 3:30 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.
2. 6th – 9th grade will be from 7:30 P.M. – 10:30 P.M.
We discussed the Valentine Shop that will be going on February 11th – 14th. We have already started putting some of the things together to be sold, but still need volunteers to help get orders out and to put packages together. Prices of items will be from $2.00 to $10.00. The idea was brought up about displaying the items somehow. We will be checking into this.
We discussed the Web-Site that the PTA has on the Monroe Academy Site.
Precillia announced the Spelling Bee that will be Thursday January 17th at 6:00 P.M. and encouraged everyone to attend.
Step-Com folders will be out February 6th.
Our Winter Break will be February 18th & 19th.
The next PTA meeting will be March 4th at 6:00 P.M. in the Media Center and this will also be our last meeting for this School Term. During this meeting will be the vote on new officers for PTA next year.

2. Volunteers for Grandparents Day, Baccalaureate Field Day, Honor’s Night for the High School, and Teacher’s Appreciation
