About Monroe Academy
PURPOSE: Monroe Academy was incorporated some 40 years ago on May 19, 1966 to provide a college preparatory program for students with a desire for a higher education. The main purposes of the school are the academic preparation of students as well as the development of the moral, social and aesthetic values which enable students to live happy, rewarding, and productive lives.
CAMPUS: The school is located on 24 acres in Forsyth, Georgia, one and one-half miles from Interstate 75. The campus includes three academic buildings, including a state-of-the-art Science Facility, a gymnasium/cafeteria, four athletic fields, tennis courts, and two newly renovated playgrounds for preschool and elementary students.
ACCREDITATIONS: Monroe Academy is “Accredited with quality” by the Georgia Accrediting Commission and has dual accreditation from the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
CURRICULUM: All curriculum is college preparatory. A two semester scholastic year is scheduled with 18 week semesters. Reports of academic progress are issued every nine weeks. Classes are 52 minutes in length, five days a week, six periods daily and a mandatory study hall for all middle and high school students.
SAT AND STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES: The top 10% of graduating seniors average 1,269 on the SAT; the overall average is 1,024 for the verbal and math. Students in grades 1-8 are tested with the ITBS. The majority of our students score two grade levels above their current grade. Average scores are in high national percentiles for all grades.
HONORS AND ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES: Monroe Academy currently offers 8 honors classes and 4 Advanced Placement courses. Admission to these courses is by teacher recommendation, test scores, and prior academic performance in the specific area.
STUDENT BODY: We currently have two hundred twenty-seven students in grades 3K through twelfth grades from 10 different counties. Seventy-seven percent of the Class of 2006 were eligible for HOPE Scholarships. One hundred percent of the Class of 2006 were accepted at a College or University.
FACULTY: Monroe Academy has 32 faculty members and administrators. All professional staff holds Bachelors’ degrees, 8 hold Masters’ degrees, and one holds a specialist degree. The average student to teacher ratio is 10 to 1.
ELEMENTARY: All of the elementary curriculum has been updated and is based on the national standards, rather than the state standards. We offer excellent special classes including art, computer, music, library and PE. Our preschool program is state certified and after school care is provided.
